Operations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka have been temporarily halted by the national carrier SriLankan Airlines.

Sri Lanka is home to a large number of Maldivians, and the Managing Director of Ace Travels, SriLankan's ticketing agency in the Maldives, Mohamed Firaag stated that flights between the two countries by SriLankan Airlines would not be held until March 25.

The operations were halted due to the closure of the Bandaranaike International Airport. The closure was a precautionary measure by Sri Lanka to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

“If things do not get worse, flights will resume on the 25th,” said Firaag.

SriLankan operates three flights between the two countries per day.

Sri Lanka has confirmed 50 cases of the virus.
