Former President Abdulla Yameen has had his medical examinations at IGMH today after he was found guilty of money laundering by the Criminal Court yesterday.
The former President faces a sentence of five years in jail and the Maldives Correctional Services stated that the jail in which the President Yameen would be held will be decided after his medical examinations were conducted. He had been kept in the Male’ prison following the verdict of the Criminal Court.
IGMH media officials confirmed to “Sun” that the former President was brought to the hospital for his medical examinations in the morning of today and was taken back after the process was concluded.
A panel of five judges found the former President guilty on money laundering charges regarding the acquisition costs of G.A Vodamulla. The court the former President guilty of laundering the money through his account based on the evidence presented in court and sentenced President Yameen to five years in jail with a USD five million fine in the sentencing hearing yesterday.
