Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded a contract by Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation to introduce minibus services to Male’ City within the next 120 days (four months).
The contract was signed in a ceremony held at Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation headquarters this Wednesday by Minster Aishath Nahula and CEO of MTCC, Hassan Shah.
Speaking to press following the signing ceremony, Nahula said MTCC is required to introduce minibus services to Male’ City within the next 120 days.
She also stressed the Maldivian administration’s commitment to improving public transport and resolving current issues with the transport system.
“I believe the introduction of minibus services will be a huge convenience to the members of the general public,” said Nahula.
The new Maldivian Administration has announced plans for several key transport overhauls to improve domestic transport.
The introduction of minibus services had been one of the administration’s first 90-day goals.
Nahula, during a press conference on January 10, announced plans consolidate public bus transport services in Male’ City, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ to MTCC.
Public bus services between Male’ City and Hulhumale’ is currently being provided by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
