Umaru acquires signatures required to run in Election

Former Home Minister, Umaru Naseer has acquired the signatures he require to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming Presidential Election. 

As per the latest amendment to the law, independent candidates require 1,500 signatures from their supporters to run in the Presidential Election as an independent candidate. 

Umaru Naseer announced on Facebook today that he has received over 2,200 signatures and he would make a decision this week. 

So far, the only candidate who has submitted the form to run in the Presidential Election this September is the Opposition Candidate, MDP's Ibrahim Mohamed Solih while the governing party, PPM, has said that they would submit the form of their candidate, current President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, before the deadline closes. 

Application period expires on 10 August.
