Seven countries have been sent invitations to observe the Maldivian Presidential Elections 2018, scheduled for September 23.
The Elections Commission (EC) tweeted this Wednesday that the commission has sent invitations to 2 European countries, two SAARC countries, two Asia-Pacific countries and one Arab country to observe the election. The commission said it has also sent invitations to three international bodies to observe the election.
Elections commissioner and Spokesperson, Ahmed Akram reported to “Sun” that the countries sent invitations to observe the election were selected under the advisement of international organizations involved in the monitoring of elections.
Akram said more countries and organizations will be provided with the opportunity to monitor and observe the election once the application is officially opened.
Candidacy for the Presidential Elections will be opened on July 15. And the Voters List was published in the Government Gazette on June 10. Opportunity to send in complaints regarding any issues with the Voters List will run out at 10:30 pm this Wednesday.
