Total 48 people were arrested from the opposition demonstrations in Male’ City on March 1 and March 2 for obstruction, one remains in police custody, says Maldives Police Service.
Maldives Police Service tweeted last Saturday night that it arrested 48 protestors in total from the demonstrations on March 1 and March 2, and that 47 of the protestors were promptly released.
The police said the 48 protestors were arrested for obstruction of police duty and disobeying police instructions.
In the tweet, the police appealed to the public for support to ensure public safety.
The opposition has been holding nightly protests in the capital, Male’ City. The police have warned against holding the demonstrations past 10:30 pm to ensure public safety.
