Child assault in deserted house sparks police investigation

The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation after a disturbing video surfaced on social media, depicting a group assaulting a young boy in a deserted house on a northern island in Maldives.

The graphic footage shows the child being severely beaten. While only two assailants are fully visible in the video, one is clearly seen striking the child repeatedly on the head. The video also captures the child being kicked and thrown to the ground by a third assailant, where only the assailant's leg is seen.

Police confirmed they are aware of the circulating video and are collaborating with the Family and Child Protection Service and the local island police station to investigate the incident.

Authorities have urged the public not to share the video further to protect the child's safety.

Details regarding the individuals involved, including whether the assailants are minors, have not yet been released.

This incident echoes a similar case from mid-last year in Rasdhoo, North Ari Atoll, where a video of a child being bullied and tortured was posted online. That footage showed a child being beaten and having a bottle of water he held snatched and poured on his head. A special police team was dispatched to Rasdhoo to investigate that case as well.
