The Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed public ferry service officially has been expanded to cover Th. Atoll, an atoll with 13 inhabited islands located in central Maldives.

The service was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu – who is on a tour of islands in four atolls of central Maldives – in a ceremony held in Th. Veymandoo on Wednesday night.

According to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), a state-run company that operates the ferry network, two 50-passenger high-speed ferries will operate across five routes, six days a week in Th. Atoll, making travel more reliable, convenient, and accessible for the community.

Addressing a rally held in Veymandoo following the inauguration, President Muizzu said that the RTL ferry service was launched in Th. Atoll as part of his administration’s efforts to put the region “on the radar for development”.

He said the service offers the residents of Th. Atoll a solution to the challenges they face in travel.

He added that the number of ferries will be increased as the RTL service is expanded.

According to President Muizzu, the administration aims to finish the nationwide rollout of the RTL ferry service within the next six months.

The high-speed public transport service RTL launched in 2022, during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
