Ahmed Rasheed, the former parliamentary representative for Gadhdhoo constituency, has died.
Sun has been informed that he died on Tuesday at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Several sources reported that he died after a long battle with cancer.
Rasheed got elected to the Parliament in 2014 as a candidate from the then-ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). During his time in the Parliament, he had served in key parliamentary committees including the Security Services Committee, the Public Accounts Committee, and the Independent Institutions Committee.
In a post on X, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu conveyed condolences to Rasheed’s bereaved family.

He described Rasheed as “a beloved brother who worked closely with us” in numerous political campaigns.
