Independent MP Abdul Rahman has submitted a request to Parliament to summon Housing Minister Dr Abdullah Muthalib for questioning over stalled development projects in Addu-Meedhoo.
The MP raised concerns about government projects planned for Meedhoo, including those announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to the island. Abdul Rahman asked whether the delays stem from a lack of cooperation from the city council or constituency MPs, and proposed clarifying what steps the council and members should take to move the projects forward.
He said these were questions raised directly by Meedhoo residents during his recent visit to the island.
While the request seeks clarification on Meedhoo’s stalled projects, similar concerns have surfaced across other islands, with many expressing frustration over delays.

On December 28, Minister Muthalib stated that construction projects were underway. However, official figures from the Finance Ministry show that only MVR 197 million was spent on housing projects by December 18, just 11 percent of the MVR 1.8 billion pledged for the year. The remaining 89 percent remains untouched.
President Muizzu had previously declared last year as the “year for housing.”
