Maldives Immigration has announced it plans to make an additional 150 hires, after hundreds of people joined the walk-in interviews that the agency held during the weekend for 50 vacancies.
Immigration held the walk-in interviews for 50 officer trainee jobs on Saturday at the Galolhu School in Male’. By the time interviews began at 09:00 am, a long queue formed outside the school premises, stretching along the length of the pavement for at least a block.
875 people walked in to get interviewed for the 50 jobs by 05:00 pm.
A spokesperson from Immigration told Sun on Sunday that the agency plans to hire total 200 trainees.
He said that the agency will therefore be hiring 150 more officer trainees.
Applications will open later, said the spokesperson.
The walk-in interviews on Saturday were conducted by nine interview panels, including three which was later added due to the large number of applicants who arrived to get interviewed.
The officer trainee job offers a basic salary of MVR 6,500, along with a service allowance of MVR 1,500 and a special service allowance of 35 percent of pay after basic training.
The 2022 census shows Maldives has a population of 515,132, including 411,219 people of the working age group, which is above 15 years. The unemployment rate is three percent.
