VP Latheef affirms Maldives’ commitment to One-China Principle

Vice President Hussain Latheef has affirmed the Maldives’ commitment to the One-China Principle, which he said is key to maintaining stable ties between the two countries.

He made the statement while delivering opening remarks at the Group meeting between leaders attending the Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation and Chinese Government dignitaries.

The meeting was presided by Vice Chairman of National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wang Yong.

In his remarks, the Vice President expressed sincere gratitude to the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government for their warm hospitality. 

Underscoring that China has always been a reliable friend of the Maldives – he reiterated the Maldives' commitment to the One-China Principle, which he stated was key to maintaining stable ties between the two countries.

He noted that the Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation provides a unique opportunity for collaboration and exchange.

VP Latheef joined a group photo with Chinese Government and foreign dignitaries following the meeting.

Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation is the third edition of the high-level official development cooperation forum, a joint venture between China and the countries of the Indian Ocean Region.
