Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef departed for Doha on Monday evening to attend the Second World Summit for Social Development, hosted by the State of Qatar from November 4 to 6.
The summit, held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, brings together heads of state, government officials, and international organizations for high-level discussions on advancing social development, eradicating poverty, strengthening labor markets, and building inclusive societies.
Vice President Latheef is scheduled to deliver a statement at the opening ceremony, representing the Maldives’ commitment to global efforts in promoting social justice and sustainable development.
This year’s summit marks the second edition of the World Social Summit, held three decades after the inaugural event in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995. The summit aims to renew international commitment to the Copenhagen Declaration and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Maldives’ participation reflects its ongoing engagement in multilateral platforms focused on inclusive growth and social protection.
In September, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also visited Qatar to attend an emergency meeting of Arab and Muslim leaders, underscoring the country’s diplomatic ties and regional cooperation.
