President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu provided assurance to the people of ADh. Mahibadhoo on Sunday that his administration will launch developmental projects in the islands next year and deliver his electoral pledges.

President Muizzu visited Mahibadhoo on Sunday morning as part of a two-day tour of islands in ADh. Atoll.

Addressing a rally in Mahibadhoo, President Muizzu said that his administration will finalize the concept for the urban center development initiative and launch land reclamation and other such works next year.

The establishment of seven urban centers is a key component of the incumbent administration’s manifesto; three urban centers to the north of Male’, and four to the south.

Mahibadhoo is among the islands selected for development as an urban center.

The other islands selected for the initiative are: R. Ungoofaaru, B. Eydhafushi, Lh. Naifaru, F. Nilandhoo, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo and L. Fonadhoo.

President Muizzu said that it is crucial to develop these seven islands. But he also said that the project does not end there.

“We do not plan on stopping with these seven locations. It is crucial to develop these seven locations. We designated Mahibadhoo as an urban center because we want to bring key developments, including this lagoon. I assure you that we will get this done. This will facilitate housing and economic activities, and the island will become a key regional hub offering numerous benefits,” he said.

President Muizzu said the administration will also launch the project listed in the island’s land use plan to develop 100 housing units next year and complete it as soon as possible.

He also said the administration will redevelop the island’s youth center – which is currently closed down – and reopen it with additional facilities, and also commence work on installing lights at the island’s football field.

President Muizzu said the projects will be conducted in accordance with the wishes of the people of Mahibadhoo.
