Charges sought against teacher accused of grooming students

Maldives Police Service has requested charges against the teacher accused of grooming students by discussing age-inappropriate topics.

The case from an island in the southern central division was reported to the authority on October 17^th.

The division includes Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa and Laaamu atolls.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in connection to the case under a court order on October 27^th.

He was first remanded in custody for 20 days and later, for 30 days.

Police, on Thursday, said they have completed the investigation into the case and requested charges against the suspect from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

As per the Police, the charges were requested on November 25^th.

Serious cases involving teachers grooming students or sexually abusing students have previously come to light as well.
