Foreigner arrested for molesting eight-year-old boy

A foreigner has been arrested for molesting an eight-year-old boy.

In a message to the media, Police said they received a report of an eight-year-old boy being molested at an island in one of the southern atolls on Tuesday.

The suspect – a 26-year-old foreigner – was arrested under a court order on Wednesday.

The case is under investigation by the Police.

No further details have been shared as the case involves a minor. 

Statistics publicized by the Police show that over 200 cases pertaining to sexual misconduct have been reported so far this year.
