The ice plant in R. Maduvvari operated by the island’s council has been shifted under the state fisheries company, MIFCO.
The council handed over the ice plant to MIFCO on Thursday in line with a decision made by the government.
A special ceremony was held at Maduvaari Council on Thursday to sign the handover agreement. Maduvvari Council President Mohamed Sodhiq signed the agreement on behalf of the Council while acting-chief Ilyas Haneef represented MIFCO.
Commenting regarding the matter, MIFCO Project and Technical Department’s General Manager Muaz Ali said the state fisheries company has taken over Madduvari ice plant effective of today and in this trajectory, has commenced the provision of services.
As per Muaz, the ice plant is presently overseen by Felivaru Fisheries Complex (FFC)’s engineering team.
“With the commencement of the service, an ice ton will be sold to fishermen at a rate of MVR 750. This ice plant is a 25-metric-ton flakes ice plant. It can maintain an ice stock of 50 tons. MIFCO will remain committed to facilitating easements for fishermen even in the future,” he said.
Speaking after signing the agreement, Maduvvari Council President Sodiq noted that employees had already been arranged as MIFCO takes over the operations of the ice plant.
“MIFCO technicians and a cashier are available. Fishermen can get ice at a feasible price,” he detailed.
Maduvvari ice plant was operationalized in 2021 in conjunction with Fishermen’s Day.
