Registration open for home-based food businesses

Authorities have opened registration for home-based food businesses.

Maldivian authorities have opened registration for home-based food businesses.

On February 19, the Business Center Corporation (BCC) and the Maldives food and Drug Authority (MFDA) introduced a policy for issuance of logos for small home-based food businesses.

But in a statement on Monday, the BCC announced that the policy has now been repealed the policy, following the implementation of the Food Safety Act, under which the MFDA was formulated new regulations for home-based food businesses.

The new regulations require home-based food businesses to register with the MFDA via the Dhirithi portal.

Food businesses were previously required to register under the Health Protection Agency (HPA). But mandate was transferred to the MFDA under the new Food Safety Act, which grants the agency additional powers.
