Employers with under MVR 100,000 in outstanding expat fees have until Sep 16 to settle dues

Employers who have less than MVR 100,000 in outstanding fees and penalties for expatriate workers under their employment have been given two weeks to settle their dues.

In an announcement on Sunday, the Home Ministry said that employers of expatriate workers with less than MVR 100,000 in outstanding have until September 16 to settle dues.

The ministry warned that the names of employers who fail to settle the dues by the deadline will be publicized.

They will also be suspended via the Xpat system and will not be issued any new permits.

In the announcement, the Home Ministry said it was receiving complaints from employers over difficulties in settling all outstanding fees and penalties.

It said that employers can apply for settlement agreements with the government via the Xpat system.

The government is owed hundreds of millions of Rufiyaa in outstanding fees and penalties for expatriate workers.
