The United Nations (UN) has invited young Maldivians to apply for funded opportunities to attend the Summit of the Future Youth Action Day in New York.

The Summit of the Future Youth Action Days will take place from September 20-21 at the UN headquarters in New York, United States.

The event is part of a two-day initiative focused on bringing together diverse stakeholders to create impactful solutions for a better future.

The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts announced on Thursday that the UN Youth Office will sponsor up to 10 young Maldivians aged 18-30 to attend the Action Days in person, ensuring their active participation in the Youth Action Day.

The Summit of the Future Youth Action Days aims to foster collaboration between governments, civil society, businesses, young people, and more, with the goal to generate concrete actions and commitments on pressing issues, amplify existing initiatives, and ensure the summit leads to lasting progress.

A dedicated half-day program on September 20, led by the UN Youth Office, will be the centerpiece for youth engagement. It provides a platform for young leaders to raise their voices on critical issues that impact their lives, the future, and generations to come.

According to the Youth Empowerment Ministry, the participants will be selected by a committee representing the UN Youth Office, youth organizations, and aging advocacy groups. They will prioritize a balanced group with diverse genders, nationalities, and backgrounds, ensuring voices from under-represented groups are heard.

Applications are open until July 10 at midnight ET.

The application guidelines and the application form can be found online.

Additional information about the event is available on UN’s website.
