Employees at the Sun Siyam Iru Veli began a blood donation camp on Saturday, as part of a blood drive run by Sun Siyam Group to celebrate its anniversary.

This was the fifth such camp run by the Sun Siyam Group this year, run under the supervision of a team from Maldivian Blood Services (MBS).

The camp at Sun Siyam Iru Veli was inaugurated by the resort’s general manager, Masdhooq Saeed.

He said that the purpose of the camp is not just to donate blood, but also to raise awareness about how much the Maldivian community needs it.

“Blood can’t be manufactured. This is a helping hand extended by generous benefactors such as you. Thank you, for your support for such an important initiative,” he said.

Masdhooq described the decision by the staff to donate blood as a brave decision that will save countless lives.

He urged them to encourage their friends and family to donate blood in the future.

“Blood donation is an act of compassion that can save lives. A single unit of donated blood can help countless people in need of it,” he said.

“Thank you, Azza, and the team from MBS, for your hard work in running this event. Let’s make this blood donation camp a great success! Together, we can make a real difference!”

Sun Siyam Group has been holding annual blood drives in celebration of its anniversary since 2015. The company was forced to suspend the initiative during the Covid-19 pandemic, but resumed it again, last year.

This year’s blood drive began on May 9, at the Sun Siyam Olhuveli. The second camp was held at the Siyam World Maldives on May 16, the third at the Sun Siyam Group head office on May 21, and the fourth at the Sun Siyam Iru Fushi on May 26.

Azza Hameed, the manager of Sun Siyam Group’s Agriculture Department and the coordinator of the blood donation camp, previously said that 459 employees donated blood during last year’s event.
