All companies within the Sun Siyam Group have launched fundraising efforts to support neighboring Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah, the country’s deadliest natural disaster in years.
Cyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka last Wednesday, causing extensive destruction. The death toll from landslides and flooding triggered by heavy rains has risen to 366, while 367 people remain missing. More than 180,000 individuals have been displaced and relocated to government-run shelters, and one-third of the country is currently without electricity or clean water.
In response to the crisis, Sun Siyam Group founder Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has directed all companies under the group to begin fundraising initiatives to aid Sri Lanka during this critical time.
Accordingly, donation boxes have been set up at the Sun Siyam head office, at all five of the group’s resorts in the Maldives—Siyam World, Irufushi, Vilu Reef, Iruveli, and Olhuveli—and at the Sun Siyam Media office.
The fundraising events will continue throughout the next 10 days.
Sun Siyam Group stated with pride that tourists staying at its resorts are also contributing to the donations.
Commenting on the initiative, Siyam, the Managing Director of Sun Siyam Group, noted that many Sri Lankans work within the group’s companies. He said the fundraising effort reflects the company’s strong solidarity with its Sri Lankan staff and urged everyone to contribute.
Zulaikha Manik, Sun Siyam Group’s Deputy Managing Director, said Siyam, spearheading such an initiative as the company’s top figure, reflects the closeness he maintains with Sri Lanka, his compassion and humanity. She added that Siyam is always ready to assist anyone seeking his help. As such. Zulaikha also appealed for the best implementation of the fundraising initiatives.
The donations received through this fundraiser will be handed over to the Sri Lankan High Commission in the Maldives.
The fundraising event has been launched after Siyam, on Sunday, pledged USD 200,000 to support Sri Lanka, donating USD 75,000 of the pledged amount. He confirmed that further contributions will be made in the coming days.
Sun Siyam Group operates Sun Siyam Pasikuda, a five-star luxury resort in Sri Lanka. The property has won TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best award, underscoring the group’s strong presence in the region.
