Seven arrested in Hulhumale’ drug operation get seven-day remand

Eight suspects arrested during Thursday’s counter-narcotics operation in Hulhumale’ Phase I have been remanded in custody.

The eight suspects arrested include seven Maldivian men and one Maldivian woman.

Police, in a message to media outlets on Sunday, said they were brought before the Criminal Court for a remand hearing that remanded seven of the suspects in custody for a week and the remaining suspect in custody for three days.

The case is under further investigation.

Cases related to theft and drugs have seen a sharp hike recently.

In a press conference held by home sector stakeholders on Sunday, Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Nafiz detailed that 56 counter-narcotics operations have been carried out this year.

260 Maldivians have been arrested while in possession of drugs while 15 foreigners have been arrested while in possession of drugs.
