Customs seize over two kilos of drugs in September, October

Maldives Customs has announced the seizure of 2.5 kilos of drugs attempted to be smuggled into the Maldives via courier and post.

Customs, on Tuesday, said the drugs were seized in September and October following searches of incoming parcels to the Maldives.

In this regard, they detailed that the drugs seized in relation to four cases tested positive for ‘synthetic cathinone’ and drugs seized in one case tested positive for ‘mephedrone’.

Details of the days the drugs seized

  • September 9: 510 grams of synthetic cathinone in a parcel from China via courier
  • September 28: 100 grams of synthetic cathinone in a parcel from Netherlands via post
  • October 12: 989.6 grams of synthetic cathinone in a parcel from France via courier
  • October 19: 520 grams of synthetic cathinone in a parcel from China via courier
  • October 25: 270 grams of mephedrone in a parcel from UK via courier

Customs said the seized drugs have been handed over to the police, following which they have launched an investigation.

Subsequent to the unavailability of the police for a comment at this time, it is unclear whether arrests have been made in connection to the cases.
