Opposition PPM/PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to double the salary of Maldives National Defence Force and Maldives Police Service employees if he is elected.
At the campaign rally held last night at the artificial beach called “Maves PPM” Muizzu noted that today is Maldives’ national day and said that one of the biggest priorities of a country should be soldiers and police officers. Muizzu also said that the most important roles in maintaining the independence of a nation are soldiers and police officers.
“In my administration, I will double the salary of soldiers and police officers,” Muizzu said.
In addition, he noted that the flats for MNDF and Police that were supposed to be finished in the first 100 days of this government are still unfinished even after 5 years. He said that, in his administration, the rent for the flats will not be taken for a year and that after a year, he will establish an easy way to pay by making it into small instalments.
“Just because I have said this, i don’t know if they will increase the salary of soldiers and police tomorrow. IF it happens that way, i will be very happy. When i went to Thinadhoo and said i will declare it a city, the next day they declared Thinadhoo a city,” Muizzu said, criticising the MDP presidential candidate President Solih.
He further said that this government have neglected and treated police officers and soldiers very harshly and that their agreeing to let foreign soldiers stay here, it has put the independence of the country in jeopardy.
“Today we need to talk about our independence more than before. They are taking our independence. We are en route to losing our independence,” Muizzu said.
Muizzu said that he will win the upcoming second round of the 2023 presidential elections, which will be held on September 30, and give Maldivians their country back.
