Rozaina steps away from MP career

Addu City Meedhoo constituency's MDP-aligned MP Rozaina Adam on Monday, has said she will no longer contend for any future parliamentary elections.

She made announcement of retiring from her MP career at the last sitting of the 19th parliament assembly.

During the time provided to the MP for discourse, Rozaina said after 15 years in parliament, she has decided to take a different direction.

"I do not have any plans to contend in future, so, this makes today, the final time I will be speaking in the parliament as a member," Rozaina said.

"It is with certainty I claim, that my seat was not on sale for even a single day during my 15-year tenure."

She further said she was retiring from her parliament career with contentment, and thanked Meedhoo constituents as well. Rozaina added she is hopeful of performing the duties entrusted by her constituents.

Rozaina is an outspoken MP among the few female MPs of the 19th parliamentary assembly, and has been a vocal advocate for women's rights.

During her lengthy tenure as a sitting MP, Rozaina had submitted multiple bills and motions aimed towards strengthening the rights of women.

Rozaina had contested in MDP's primary for a ticket this year as well, but faced defeat.
