Pedestrian traffic lights were brought into use in suburban Hulhumale’ for the first time ever on Friday.
The initial pedestrian traffic lights were launched by Vice President Faisal Naseem during a special ceremony on Friday evening.
Urbanco said the main purpose of installing the pedestrian traffic lights was to establish a safe environment for Hulhumale’ residents and individuals visiting the suburb for various purposes. They underscored that the pedestrian traffic lights would provide easements for pedestrians while crossing the road.
The corporation is installing pedestrian traffic lights in eight areas in Hulhumale’ while prioritizing road crossings most frequented by the public.
Two pedestrian traffic lights were brought into use Friday; one in front of Hulhumale’ Hospital while the other at Hiyaa Flat area.
By clicking the switch on the traffic light, the pedestrian will be guided on how to proceed; whether to cross the road or stop. The light will also indicate how much time they have to cross the road.
