Villa Foundation, the CSR wing of Villa Group, has partnered with the Maldivian Nurses Association to launch a new scholarship scheme for nurses.
According to Villa, the scholarship scheme was launched Tuesday in celebration of 75 years of nursing as a profession in Maldives, ahead of the International Nurses Day celebrated on May 12.
Commenting on the launch of the scholarship scheme, Villa Foundation’s executive director Mohamed Hameed said Villa recognizes nurses are an essential part of the healthcare system, and play a vital role in society.
“We hope that this scholarship scheme will provide opportunities for deserving nursing students to pursue their dreams and make a meaningful contribution to the healthcare sector in the Maldives,” he said.
Maldives Nurses Association’s secretary general Mariyam Shifana noted nurses play a critical role in society, especially in crisis situations such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Nurses have played a critical role in the fight against Covid-19, and we believe that investing in nursing education is key to building a strong and resilient healthcare system in the Maldives. We look forward to working with Villa Foundation to support the next generation of nursing leaders,” she said.
Under the scholarship scheme, Villa Foundation will provide three scholarships annually for students pursuing a Diploma in Nursing course at Villa College, with two scholarships exclusively reserved for female candidates and one for male candidates.
