National Integrity Commission (NIC), on Sunday, has stated that they are targeting to complete the investigation report of their probe into the death of GDh. Hoadedhdhoo man who died in police custody in late October by next February.

NIC confirmed the receipt of Abdulla’s autopsy report earlier. However, on Sunday, as well, they said they are unable to disclose the details of the report at the moment.

“We are targeting to finish by the next month. If not, the complete investigation report will be sent to PG (Prosecutor General’s Office) within February,” an official from NIC said.

The official said statements have been obtained from many individuals so far in the investigation.

“We have not noticed any matters in this case that requires statements from the family. If it comes to that, we will also do that,” the official added.

Nevertheless, the family have expressed concern over delays in receiving the autopsy report.

“We are extremely concerned over the extended delays. They are still saying they will not give the postmortem report,” Abdulla Rasheed’s uncle Abdulla Shareef told Sun.

Abdulla Rasheed, 43, was arrested in a counter-drug operation from a café near the harbor of GDh. Hoadedhdhoo at approximately 02:15 pm on October 25. The police hired a private speedboat to transport him to another island. He died en route.

According to the family, Abdulla had repeatedly complained of chest pains when the police had him board the boat, and the officers there dismissed it as an act and denied him medical treatment.

His body was transported to India for an autopsy to determine the cause of death on October 31, despite protests from his family, who wished to have him buried as soon as possible. They made an unsuccessful attempt to halt the autopsy by filing a case with the Civil Court.

His body was flown back home and buried on November 5.
