NIC: Yet to receive Abdulla Rasheed’s detailed postmortem report

National Integrity Commission (NIC), on Monday, stated that they have not yet received the detailed postmortem report of Abdulla Rasheed, the GDh. Hoadedhdhoo man who died in police custody in late October last year.

Speaking to Sun, an official from NIC said although they have received Abdulla Rasheed’s preliminary postmortem report – they have yet to receive the finalized version.

The official noted that efforts were still ongoing to obtain statements from those relevant to the case.

Abdulla Rasheed, 43, was arrested in a counter-drug operation from a café near the harbor of GDh. Hoadedhdhoo at approximately 02:15 pm on October 25. The police hired a private speedboat to transport him to another island. He died en route.

According to the family, Abdulla had repeatedly complained of chest pains when the police had him board the boat, and the officers there dismissed it as an act and denied him medical treatment.

His body was transported to India for an autopsy to determine the cause of death on October 31, despite protests from his family, who wished to have him buried as soon as possible. They made an unsuccessful attempt to halt the autopsy by filing a case with the Civil Court.

His body was flown back home and buried on November 5.

Abdulla Rasheed’s family claims that the police had stated they will hand over the preliminary postmortem report alongside his body. However, the family has not received it, to date. 

NIC has refused to disclose any details of the preliminary postmortem report.

In an earlier statement, the Commission said they were working to complete the report of their inquiry into Abdulla Rasheed’s death by this month.
