Lh. Atoll Hospital brings in new surgeon after two weeks’ wait

Lh. Atoll Hospital.

The Lh. Atoll Hospital has brought in a new surgeon, two weeks after the previous surgeon fled.

The hospital’s previous surgeon, a Cuban who had been the sole surgeon on duty at the hospital at the time, had fled on November 20, five months into his appointment.

He had fled without any prior notice, leaving the hospital, located in Lh. Naifaru, without a surgeon for two weeks.

The hospital had previously planned on bringing in a surgeon from the HA. Atoll Hospital in HA. Dhidhdoo to replace him.

Lh. Atoll Hospital’s manager Jaufar Abdulla told Sun on Tuesday that the hospital has since received a new surgeon.

“Health Ministry has sent us a new doctor. A new doctor they recruited. The plan to transfer the doctor from HA. Atoll Hospital has been cancelled,” he said.

Jaufar said the new surgeon, an Egyptian, arrived in Naifaru on Sunday.

He is currently undergoing orientation and is set to report to duty next week.

The Cuban surgeon had reportedly fled to Male’ City. According to local residents, it had marked the first time for such an incident to take place.

They are in the dark about what caused him abandon his post.

He had worked with another surgeon, who is currently on leave.
