The airport being developed in Lh. Madivaru by Kureddoo Holdings has been postponed due to issues raised from the Environment Impact Assessment.
The airport will now open sometime next year. State Minister of Transport Ministry Ahmed Zuhair stated in the "Nuvagadi" program today that the airport was facing slight delays and will be operational by 2020. The issues stemmed from the fact that sand could not be collected from the designated area for land reclamation and a new EIA had to be carried out, according to State Minister Zuhair. He also informed that the terminal of Madivaru airport was nearly complete.
"The contractors want all the work to be completed before operations can begin. The harbor works are now being carried out. Work of sheet piling is also being carried out," said the Minister.
The project to establish an airport on Madivaru was contracted to Kureddoo Holdings on May 28, 2018. The finished airport will have a runway of 1.2 kilometers.
