Police have found additional 69 kilos of drugs buried in GDh. Hoadedhdhoo and a neighboring uninhabited island, states Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed.
The latest discovery comes after police found 13 kilos of heroin buried in the island’s woods on Friday, October 28.
According to Hameed, the discovery of the 69 additional kilos of drugs increases the total quantity of drugs found in the operation in Hoadedhdhoo to 82 kilos.
The discovery of the drugs come after police arrested at least two suspects from Hoadedhdhoo on October 25. One of the suspects, Abdulla Rasheed, 43, died in police custody while being transported to another island.
According to the family, Abdulla had repeatedly complained of chest pains when the police had him board the boat, and the officers there dismissed it as an act and denied him medical treatment.
According to the police, the 13 kilos of heroin found on October 28 was buried in the woods by one of the suspects arrested in the case.
Meanwhile, Abdulla’s body has been transported to India for an autopsy to determine the case of death, despite objections from his family who wish for him to be buried as soon as possible.
