Maldivian FM departs to Japan to attend Abe’s funeral

Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid departed to Japan on Monday, to attend the state funeral for former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Shahid will be representing Maldives on behalf of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as his special envoy at the funeral.

He is accompanied on the trip by a delegation of government officials.

Abe died due to injuries sustained he sustained in an attack by a lone gunman at a campaign event on July 8.

The state funeral for Abe will be held in Tokyo on Tuesday, September 27, and will be attended by a number of foreign dignitaries and state leaders.
