Commenting on the commencement of the courses, IUM’s Registrar Ahmed Rauf Abdulla told Sun that the courses will be conducted at learning centres of the university established in atolls. That is in HDh. Hanimaadhoo, Lh. Naifaru, L. Fonadhoo, Fuvahmulah City and Addu City Meedhoo.

“Apart from at the five centres – our university is also commencing courses for the first time in about seven islands in different atolls. These courses are commencing with approximately 215 students,” he had said.

Rauf said these courses include certificate, graduate and post-graduate level courses.

He went on to state the university is receiving huge support from the atolls for the courses. In this regard, he stressed that more students had applied to partake in the courses than the slots opened.

Rauf detailed that IUM is expanding their courses further in atolls due to Maldives Qualification Authority’s decision to disallow online teaching for some Quran-related courses.

“During the pandemic, many courses were conducted online over a long period of time. However, fully teaching a course online is not something we believe in,” he added.
