IUM’s 7th research conference scheduled for this month

Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM) has scheduled its seventh international research conference for this month.

Focused on four themes – the research conference will be held be on September 17 and September 19.

Speaking to Sun regarding the conference, IUM’s Centre for Research and Publication’s dean Dr. Ismail Shafeeu said that the main goal of the event is to build an educated society.

He added that the conference will see the participation of many scholars from foreign nations. In this regard, he said that some foreign scholars will be delivering key note speeches during the conference.

“This year’s conference will see participants from Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Qatar and Arab nations as well from Nigeria,” he detailed.

Dr. Shafeeu said that the main component of the conference is presentation of academic and scientific research papers. The first theme papers will be presented on is social sciences, humanities and education. Second theme is Quranic studies, Sharia and law. Third theme is tourism, environment and technology. Fourth theme is management, business, economy, accounting, finance and banking.

Apart from this, panel discussions will take place during the conference and audiences will have the opportunity propose questions.

“Specifically for this year, we have planned panel discussions to include national development plans in the discussion,” he added.

Underscoring that IUM’s research conference was held during the pandemic years despite the difficulties posed – Dr. Shafeeu said that the event has been held every year, without a break, since 2016.

“With respect to the conference, I would like to note that one of the major goals off IUM is to share academic findings with the society. That is one of biggest motive in holding this conference,” Dr. Shafeeu emphasized.
