Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam states he has never seen a period of such rapid development in Maldives.

He made the comment during the ceremony on Wednesday to hand over the management of the R. Ungoofaaru powerhouse to Fenaka Corporation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Aslam said the government was rolling out developmental projects at such a rapid pace due to political rivalry.

“It’s a good thing to be competitive. There should be competitiveness. We must try to do things better than each other,” he said.

Aslam said that the decision by the residents of Ungoofaaru to hand over the management of the island’s powerhouse was a good decision, despite harboring some reservations.

He said the decision would lessen Maldives’ reliance on imported fuel to generate power.

He provided assurance Fenaka would provide quality services.

Aslam said the government would continue to serve the people to the best of their abilities.
