President invites Indian entrepreneurs to invest in Maldives

Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has invited Indian entrepreneurs to the Maldives to explore business prospects and assured them of his commitment to facilitate a conducive environment for foreign investments.

He made this remark while addressing the India-Maldives Business Forum in New Delhi, India, on Tuesday evening.

Speaking at the forum, President Solih said Maldives was undergoing a dynamic transition after the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the Maldivian government intends to build a more resilient, diverse and climate-friendly economy, and that a wide range of lucrative investment opportunities were available in Maldives.

President Solih said Maldives had an impressive track record of bouncing back from unprecedented hardships, and noted the country was set to return to pre-pandemic tourist arrival levels in a relatively short period.

He also noted India was one of the top source market for tourist arrivals to Maldives'.

President Solih said Maldives was commitment to sustainable development, and highlighted its ventures to transition to renewable energy.

He said that protecting the environment and the rich biodiversity was essential to preserving Maldivians’ island lifestyle, which has historically been in harmony with nature.

President Solih also spoke about the close friendship between Maldives and India.

He said that India has always been a reliable ally and that the Maldives-India partnership was exemplary of the mutual benefits two countries with unique resources and size may garner by supporting the developmental aspirations of each other.

He re-affirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining close and friendly ties.

President Solih is in India on a four-day visit at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He is accompanied on the visit by a Maldivian delegation of senior government officials including Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer, Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail, and Gender Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi, and representatives of leading businesses.

He is set to conclude his visit and return to Maldives on Thursday.
