Maldives Polytechnic has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Transport Ministry to offer assistance in conducting theory exams for driver’s license applicants, and conduct skilling and upskilling training programs in the area of land transport.

The MoU was signed by Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan and Transport Minister Aishath Nahula on Wednesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ibrahim Hassan noted that the transport sector involved various skills.

‘What makes me happy about this MoU is the good it does to the Polytechnic’s trust fund. This is a key benefit we get from this. The transport sector has work that requires numerous and various skills. It is a dream I have to have the courses for the work in this sector meet standards,” he said.

Nahula said the MoU will enable Transport Ministry to receive assistance from Polytechnic to conduct training programs.

“One benefit I note is the importance of having a Maldivian in all garages that conduct road worthiness. It will create employment opportunities. And it will make it easier for the police to monitor these things,” she said.
