Maldives State Shipping (MSS)’s bulk carrier MSS Chrome has made its maiden call at the Male’ Commercial Port.
The ship, with its 23-member crew, arrived in Maldives on Tuesday afternoon, with a shipment of 41,500 metric tons of sand and concrete aggregate from the Port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.
The ship, which has the capacity to carry 43,929 tons of cargo, is 190 meters long and 16.6 meters high.
It is the largest ship ever to fly the Maldivian flag.
The ship was greeted to a water salute upon arrival at the Male’ Commercial Port.
MSS also has a 680-container ship, MSS Galena, which operates between Male’ City and Sri Lanka’s Colombo.
MSS also recently procured a new 680-container ship, MSS Graphene, which the company said will operate to Singapore and Malaysia’s Port Klang.
MSS, founded in February 2020, has established itself in the local industry and begun generating a good income within a short span of time. The company’s annual report shows it generated a revenue of MVR 141 million in 2021 – a 331 percent increase compared to 2020.
