MFDA orders recall of ‘Stars’ brand spring onions

Spring onions.

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has ordered the recall of ‘Stars’ brand spring onions in response to pesticide contamination.

In a statement on Monday, MFDA said that the authority had received an alert from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) of the European Commission that contaminated vegetables had been imported into Maldives.

MFDA has ordered for a cease in sale and consumption of the product until advised otherwise.

The authority said they were engaged in assessing the risk the product posed to health.

‘Stars’ brand vegetables are produced in Egypt, and wholesaled by Netherland’s Global Green Team.
