Maldives Police Service introduced body-worn cameras.
During a ceremony held at Iskandhar Koshi, the body-worn cameras were inaugurated by the Minister of Environment and Technology Aminath Shauna.
A pilot training program was conducted in February of 2019 for the use of body cameras by the police force, however, it was never officially used prior to this.
A technology test was conducted as well in 2019, where some of the frontline police officers wore the cameras.
Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has previously said that the use of body cameras would further enhance and develop the police service of the Maldives. It would reduce public complaints about police misconduct in communicating with the public and increase public faith in the police force, according to the Commissioner.
