GA. Gadhdhoo Council President Mohamed Ahmed (MD) has been found not guilty on one of charges of sexual misconduct raised against him.
An official from the judiciary told Sun that the charge which was not proven during the trial process was the one pertaining to sending videos and photos containing pornographic content to a minor. He was charged with the crime last year.
The official further detailed that he was declared not guilty of the crime as it was not proven that he was the one who had sent the videos and the photos to the minor during the trial process.
Noting that the content was sent through social media, the official said that even the police investigation was not able to prove that it was Mohamed Ahmed’s account although it was in his name. It was also not proven whether the content was sent by Mohamed Ahmed, as per the official.
Subsequently, the official said that Mohamed Ahmed, who has been jailed pending outcome of the trial has been freed at the moment.
Additional charges raised against Mohamed Ahmed include having sexual relations with a minor and the possession of pornographic material.
Mohamed Ahmed is suspected of having sexual relations with a minor back in 2015, when he had been serving as the President of Gadhdhoo Council.
The judiciary official said that the witness testimony stage of the trial pertaining to the case is still ongoing.
In last April, Mohamed Ahmed was elected for a second term as the President of Gadhdhoo Council on PPM’s ticket in Local Council Elections 2020. He won by 21 votes, against a candidate of ruling party, MDP.
Mohamed Ahmed was allowed to contest in the elections as trials pertaining to the charges raised against him were not over, therefore being innocent. However, he had been jailed pending outcome of the trial back then as well.
Although Gadhdhoo Magistrate Court ordered his release on May 3, 2021 – High Court had overturned the decision and ordered him to be rearrested and detained pending outcome of trial.
