Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation against religious scholar Sheikh Zamzam Farish for allegedly sexually abusing several students from Arabiyya School, where he is employed as a teacher.

The allegations against Farish were made on social media.

Police, when questioned by the media regarding the matter, said that a complaint against a 39-year-old male for sexual misconduct was filed with the authority on October 8th, following which they have launched an investigation.

However, they did not disclose any further details regarding the case.

Farish has denied these allegations on a post on X.

Prior to this, Farish was suspended from his post during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration for allegedly making comments supporting the ‘India Out’ movement. Employment Tribunal, back then, ruled he was suspended unlawfully.

Farish, in his post on X, referenced this incident, claiming he was being framed.

“Attempted to frame me in the India Out case as well, and even now. Despite the change in higher-ups, the lower end remains the same. By the will of God, the truth will be revealed, including those behind this,” he said.

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social and Family Development have yet to comment on the case.
