Brother of an alleged drug kingpin has been arrested in a counter-narcotics operation being carried out by the Police.

During the search of a taxi in Male’ City as part of a counter-narcotics operations – Police had seized over 100 kilograms of drugs. The person arrested in connection to the case has been identified as Ahmed Mujahidh, Allora, GDh. Hoadedhdhoo.

As per information received to Sun, Mujahidh is the brother of Arshad Khalid, who was previously arrested as under suspicions of being part of a local drug trafficking ring, and believed by the Police to be the ringleader.

Arshad, who the Police believe to ring leader of a major local drug trafficking ring was released by the Criminal Court after the Supreme Court had ordered his detainment pending outcome of the trial after declaring drug trafficking to be a threat to the national security.

Sun has been informed that following his release – he is currently residing in Dubai.

Arshad’s brother, Mujahidh, is also charged with drug trafficking. Whilst the Police suspects the drug operations were carried out in participation of a number of other people – they have also alleged that an attempt was made to move the drugs from one place to another under the oversight of Mujaahidh.

In Mujahidh’s remand hearing, Police said that they seized over 100 kilos of drugs in the taxi they had searched. Noting that a medical document belonging to Mujaahidh’s child was found in the car – they suspect the drugs to have a connection to him.

At the remand hearing, Mujaahidh’s lawyer said that although he was arrested under a warrant at 1:49 today – Custodial has informed that he was not in their custody even by the time of the remand hearing.

As his arrest was not informed to his lawyer, the defense claimed that the information given by the Police was incorrect – and therefore, his arrest was unconstitutional.

Subsequent to the Custodial Department’s failure to provide correct information to the defense lawyer – Criminal Court has decided to decrease Mujaahidh’s remand period to just one day.

Police have seized a total of 119 kilos of drugs linked with the drugs found in the trunk of a taxi on Sunday night as part of a counter-narcotics operation.

Sun has been informed that the drugs were seized near the intersection of Maafaiythakurufaanu Magu and Buruzu Magu and the license number of the taxi from which drugs were seized is AB1A T8977.

A witness who was at the scene told Sun that Police had taken out a huge suitcase from the taxi’s dickey after which they had opened the suitcase. The witness further detailed that the Police had searched and seized multiple objects from the suitcase that were packed using cellophane.
