In this regard, the agreement was signed by the Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Keiko Yanai, on behalf of the Japanese Government. Principal Khadheeja Ibrahim signed the agreement on behalf of Nilandhoo School.
Funds received from this grant will be utilized for a project to build a classroom for 1st-grade students and a library at Nilandhoo School. Embassy of Japan in the Maldives said that this project will help create quality space for children to study in and also can be utilized as a temporary shelter in times of natural disasters.
Education Ministry will be overseeing this project.
GGP scheme is part of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) – which is support provided by the Japanese government for socio-economic development in the Maldives. It provides flexible and quick support to comparatively small-scale development projects which aim to improve the social well-being of people at the grassroots level.
The assistance has been rendered to Maldives, for different fields, since 1989. They include education, environment, health, energy and transportation.
