New health centre to be built at Omadhoo

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the government’s decision to build a new health centre at ADh. Omadhoo – by including the project in next year’s budget.

In a meeting held with Omadhoo Council members on Thursday – President Solih said that the project has been allocated funding from next year’s budget.

Speaking to Sun regarding that new health centre set to be built – Omadhoo Council President Ibrahim Adil said that the current health centre was extremely old, hindering the provision of services to its best capacity.

“The health centre currently being used in our island was built by the people’s hard work a long time ago. The building is very old now. Modern services like laboratory and as such cannot be facilitated there,” he explained.

Adil said that to introduce new services as well as to improve the overall quality of the existing health centre – more space would be needed. He noted that this is the reason why the government had decided to build a new health centre.

He further said that it is Omadhoo residents’ wish that physical work on the new health centre commences next year – it being one of their most pertinent needs.

During the meeting held between the President and Omadhoo Council members – President Solih had promised that the issue of the sewerage service delay will be addressed in November referring to the service delays after completing the sewerage project one year ago.

Omadhoo Council members also outlined other concerns of the residents such as difficulties in using the harbour due to damage, beach erosion, the need for sports facilities upgrades and congestion in the school due to lack of space.

In response, President Solih said that their concerns will be relayed to relevant government authorities in order to find speedy solutions for them.
