Health Protection Agency (HPA) has placed Mahibadhoo and Maamigili – two residential islands in ADh. Atoll – under monitoring in response to COVID-19 cases.

HPA placed the two islands under monitoring this Sunday, banning travel in and out of the island unless with the agency’s permission.

Mahibadhoo and Maamigili were placed under monitoring for contact tracing after a resident of Maamigili who travelled to Dh. Kudahuvadhoo tested positive for COVID-19. The person in question was tested after developing symptoms.

Kudahuvadhoo is also under monitoring.

Information released by HPA shows a spike in COVID-19 cases in residential islands outside the greater Male’ region in recent weeks.

Maldives has 24,651 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 103 new cases on Saturday. 21,512 people have since recovered, while 67 have died from complications. The country currently has 3,063 active cases.
