COVID-19: V. Thinadhoo placed under monitoring

A tourist who vacationed in V. Thinadhoo has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting Health Protection Agency (HPA) to place the island under monitoring.

Thinadhoo Council identified the tourist as a Pakistani national, who was identified to have COVID-19 when tested prior to departure.

Thinadhoo Council said that they have been informed the tourist had contact with a resident of the island, and that the person had been quarantined.

Health authorities are conducting contact tracing.

Information released by HPA shows a spike in COVID-19 cases in residential islands outside the greater Male’ region in recent weeks.

18 residential island in the atolls are currently under monitoring.

Maldives has 24,651 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 103 new cases on Saturday. 21,512 people have since recovered, while 67 have died from complications. The country currently has 3,063 active cases.
