2 more arrested for impersonating intel officers to rob guesthouse

The police have arrested two additional suspects in connection to a robbery that took place in a guesthouse in Male’ by a group of men impersonating intelligence officers.

The crime took place on the morning of November 11 at Fariva Stay 3, located in Majeedhee Magu. According to the police, the robbers gained entrance to the guesthouse by impersonating as intelligence officers investigating a crime, and proceeded to tie up three of the guesthouse’s employees using clips before robbing the place.

The police made the first arrest in the case on November 12. The suspect was identified by the police as a 41-year-old Maldivian male. He was remanded in custody of the police for 15 days when presented before the Criminal Court for his remand hearing.

A police spokesperson said on Wednesday that two additional arrests have been made in connection to the case. The additional suspects were identified by the police as a 38-year-old Maldivian male and a 43-year-old Maldivian male. The 38-year-old suspect was arrested on November 15, while the 43-year-old suspect was arrested on November 16.

They were both remanded in custody of the police for 15 days when presented before the Criminal Court for their remand hearings.

The police have recovered some of the items stolen from the guesthouse, and continue to conduct further investigation into the case.
